These are incredibly old-fashioned but have you ever considered the series of Nancy Drew mysteries? I believe they have been updated to present times, but they're fun to read. I kind of grew up on the after the Bobbsey Twins and before more mature novels.

Try putting a cold compress on it, the compress in a towel or wash clothe though. Leave it on their for 20 min, do this for a couple days if it doesn't make the lump go down, have him seen by a vet.
