Is ysis of themes/symbolism an exercise in pseudo-intellectualism, or is there something to it?

I would imagine that William Golding knew exactly what he was doing when he created the characters and wrote the story. It seems too much of a co-incidence that others would be able to yse his writings and have all their answers fit so snugly. It is one of the reasons that the stories have been so amazingly successful and well-loved by millions of people the world over. So yes, W.G. = Genius!
